Editor’s Note: On April 3, 2017, the Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) launched “Turkey: Thirty Days of Shame“, a campaign aimed at informing and educating Canadians about Turkey’s flagrant and consistent abuses of human rights, disregard to the principles of democracy and its continuous denial of the Armenian Genocide. Every weekday during the entire month of April, the ANCC will post one article, video, or human rights report highlighting Turkey’s continuing disrespect for human rights and its ruling regime’s efforts to gloss over its gross violations with slick propaganda, political bullying, and misinformation.

Ottawa — The theme for the first week mainly focused on Turkey’s growing disconnection with the realities of today’s political climate and its hostile attitude towards the international community. Since claiming power in 2006, and more blatantly after the failed coup attempt in June of 2016, President Erdogan’s descent to absolute autocracy has been characterized by a foreign policy founded in bullying, coercion and intimidation within its immediate region and abroad. From its controversial involvement in the Syrian civil war to comparing various European powers to the former Nazi Regime of Adolf Hitler, Turkey has blatantly demonstrated its incompetence and irresponsibility towards regional and international peace.

While attempting to advance an indistinct political agenda through the exploitation of the fragile situation in the Middle East, Turkish Foreign Minister, Mevlut Cavusoglu has vowed to export holy wars to the European continent. It is no wonder that in November 2016, the European Parliament voted to halt Turkey’s accession to the EU.

Here is a summary of the articles and reports posted during Week 1:

Day 1: The Huffington Post – It’s Time to Kick Erdogan’s Turkey Out of NATO

Day 2: The Wall Street Journal – Turkey is no Longer a Reliable Ally

Day 3: Journal de Montreal – Le dictateur Turc

Day 4: Fox News – Ralph Peters: Turkish tyrant Erdogan’s very low new low

Day 5: OpenCanada – The Increasing Incompatibility of Turkish-Western Alliance
