(OTTAWA – April 26, 2022) – On April 24, 2022, on the occasion of the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Mélanie Joly issued a statement denouncing the ongoing denial and revisionism of the Armenian Genocide.
Minister Joly also called for genocide perpetrators to be held accountable while reiterating Canada’s commitment to not relent until justice is served. The statement also noted the important developments in the advancement of Canada-Armenia relations.
The Armenian National Committee of Canada (ANCC) welcomes this statement and applauds Minister Joly’s principled stance and commitment to Armenian Genocide recognition, remembrance and condemnation as well as to the substantial advancement of Canada-Armenia relations.

Aujourd’hui, nous commémorons le Génocide des Arméniens, et nous rendons hommage au people arménien et à toutes les victimes du Medz Yeghern.
We must remember the 1.5 million lives that were lost during the Armenian genocide of 1915, the first genocide of the 20th century. And we must fight against any form of denial or revisionism.
Parce qu’honorer les victimes du génocide arménien, c’est se souvenir des pages les plus sombres de l’histoire, ainsi que du courage et de la résilience du peuple arménien.
Today, the international community is facing one of the worst tragedies and humanitarian crises since the end of World War II.
La nouvelle invasion de l’Ukraine par la Russie montre que nous ne devons rien prendre pour acquis. La force du peuple arménien est une inspiration pour nous tous dans ce combat pour la liberté et pour le droit de tous les peuples à déterminer leur propre avenir.
We must stand strong in the face of aggression. And those who commit atrocities must be held accountable. Canada will not relent until justice is done.
Le Canada et l’Arménie ont des relations très étroites. Et elles vont devenir encore plus fortes. L’ambassadeur Stéphane Dion publiera bientôt un rapport sur les meilleures façons de soutenir la démocratie arménienne et d’approfondir la coopération entre nos deux pays. Nous avons hâte de partager ce rapport. Il marquera une étape importante dans les relations canado-arméniennes.
Alors que nous commémorons le 107e anniversaire du génocide arménien, nous devons continuer à promouvoir et à défendre nos valeurs communes, chez nous et dans le monde entier.
