Canadian Politicians Defy Turkish Blackmail

Ottawa-The Armenian community of Canada and Canadians at large will commemorate the 94th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide starting on April 24.

The commemoration, on Parliament Hill, will mark the launch of a week of events across Canada, culminating on April 28 with a reception in Ottawa to celebrate the 5th anniversary of House of Commons' recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Both Ottawa events are expected to draw a large number of Parliamentarians and Senators, members of the diplomatic corps, NGO representatives, religious leaders, and representatives of other genocide victim nations.

The April 24 ceremony will recall the horrendous crime committed against humanity and to thank the Canadian people for their support. Representatives of each political party will accompany a descendent of Armenian Genocide survivors to place wreaths around the Eternal Flame in memory of all victims of genocides.

The solidarity and support Canadians have demonstrated for the commemoration of the 94th anniversary is not only for the victims of the Armenian Genocide but to all victim nations of genocide, Holocaust, war crimes and human rights abuses around the world.

After the recall of the Turkish Ambassador from Canada earlier in the week, this years commemoration has an added significance.

The sombre commemoration begins at 12:30 p.m. on April 24, on Parliament Hill, and will end at 1:30 p.m.
